South East Queensland Flooding 2022

Major flooding is occurring in Brisbane last few days, with over 140 suburbs under gone from the Brisbane River. 
South East Queensland has been smashed by heavy rainfall for days.

Water levels in Wivenhoe Dam have more than trebled in just three days as a result of heavy rain across south-east Queensland, it reminds us of the disastrous 2011 floods. The dam was sitting at over 180% capacity as of 8 am Monday morning.
When rain falls hard, the surface runoff can move quickly from higher areas to low-lying areas making these low-lying areas more prone to flooding. The faster the rain water reaches the river, the more likely it will flood.

Brisbane residents should check Brisbane Council’s website regularly for updates on potential flooding arising from the current severe weather event.

This could result in water entering properties in areas including Brisbane City, Bulimba, Hamilton, Milton, New Farm, Newstead, Norman Park, Oxley, Rocklea, South Brisbane, St Lucia, Teneriffe, Toowong, West End, Windsor and Yeronga.

  • Darra – South Depot, 38 Shamrock Road
  • Morningside – Balmoral Depot, 9 Redfern Street
  • Zillmere – North Depot, 33 Jennings Street.
